FREEHOLD – The former treasurer of a borough fire department was sentenced to three years in state prison Friday for theft.
Christine Paladino, 41, of Ocean Grove, must serve at least two years before she is eligible for parole. She pleaded guilty to one charge of theft of by deception for taking more than $40,000 through checks, debit card charges and ATM withdrawals from the Bradley Beach Fire Department, of which she was treasurer.
She took the money between May 2016 and December 2017, the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office said.
She must pay back the $40,000 as part of her plea. She is also prohibited from holding any public office in the future.
