MONMOUTH COUNTY – A sight that can never go unseen, helpless puppies found trapped in cages without any food or water.
The Humane Law Enforcement Division found a total of eight dogs and puppies crammed in small cages outside in the freezing weather.
The division had responded to a call from the Neptune City Police Department about excessive barking. The team arrived at an apartment complex where they could hear whining and numerous dogs barking. Once they entered the property, they discovered eight dogs and puppies together in small crates, living outside on a porch with only a plastic tarp to protect them from the weather.
After investigating further, they found the animals were living in their own urine and feces and weren’t provided any sort of food, water or heat. The puppies were shivering from the extreme temperature.
The Monmouth County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (MCSPCA) rescued the eight dogs and gave them food and water in which they all consumed rapidly.
Once the dogs arrived at the shelter, they were given blankets, plenty of food and water and a cozy place to sleep. The medical team examined the dogs and found that all of them had intestinal parasites. The dogs also suffered from overgrown nails, skin sores, dirty coats and ear and skin infections One dog was found covered in scars and wounds, which is a sign that the dog was being used as a bait-dog in dog fighting.
These dogs will stay in the shelter until they are healthy and well enough to be adopted and until the situation is settled in court.
