Micromedia To Provide Radio Newscasts On WBNJ-FM

LAKEHURST – Micromedia Publications, the company behind seven weekly newspapers in Monmouth and Ocean Counties, is taking a giant leap from the printed page to your radio dial.

Beginning June 6, Micromedia will become a featured local news and community content provider for 91.9 WBNJ-FM in Barnegat. Each week, the station will air rotating newscasts with highlights of what appears in the print editions that have a local, county and state-wide appeal.

Micromedia’s General Manager Jason Allentoff, formerly of Townsquare Media’s news department, is elated about the partnership. “This is a very exciting venture for our company,” he says. “It will expand our readership and enhance our online presence as we mark 20 years in business.”

WWN Educational Radio Corporation is the owner of WBNJ, a non-profit station, playing adult standards. It’s a truly amazing mix of great songs and unforgettable favorites from artists like Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Ella Fitzgerald, Rosemary Clooney, Bing Crosby and many more. WBNJ recently celebrated its fifth anniversary.

Station Manager Bill Clanton Jr. says, “One of the key missions for any radio station is to serve the local community, and this new venture will give us almost the ‘microphone on the street corner’ type of local news and information.”  Clanton also adds, “this new partnership is just a small example of how media agencies like newspaper and radio can evolve to serve better content as consumer habits change.”

The local newscasts will follow the national ABC News feed at the top of the hour in morning drive time (6 to 10 a.m.) and afternoon drive time (3 to 7 p.m).
