MANCHESTER – While residents of Manchester Township were enjoying the long holiday weekend, the local government put out a warning regarding water restrictions for the next two days.
A Nixle alert issued Monday advised residents of Manchester’s eastern service area to only use water for drinking and other necessities.
On the official township Facebook page, Mayor Ken Palmer said a faulty gauge on a water storage tank was to blame for a significant drop in water pressure and low water levels.
Palmer wrote “as a result, the tank was not filling with water. We have isolated the problem and working on fixing it. Please know, when we refurbished the the elevated water tank, we constructed an inter-connect with Suez Water (Toms River). In case of emergency the interconnect will turn on and we will have water. I will keep you informed as I get more information.”
The alert, which was also emailed to Jersey Shore Online, other media outlets and residents said water usage for plants, lawns, pools and non-essential purposes should be put on hold for the next 48 hours.
The restriction does not affect residents and businesses who have private wells on their properties.
