MANCHESTER – Manchester Township Police alerted residents that prescribed burning is taking place today.
The New Jersey State Forestry is performing prescribed burning in the Brendan Byrne Wildlife Management Area, Whiting Station and other areas in Whiting and Joint Base Maguire Dix Lakehurst.
Residents and motorists should expect smoke in the area.
The New Jersey Fire Service has used prescribed burnings since 1928 to reduce the underbrush—the fuel for fires—to help prevent forest fires.
