MANCHESTER – A pedestrian was hospitalized after being struck by a vehicle on Route 37 over the weekend.
On Dec. 29, at approximately 6:31 p.m., Manchester Police responded to the area of Route 37 and Commonwealth Blvd. for reports of a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle. Once on the scene, police observed a car stationary in the intersection and a female pedestrian lying in the middle of the intersection.
An initial investigation revealed that a 2016 Kia Sportage, operated by 56-year old Kathy Piccoli of Lakehurst, was heading westbound on Route 37 and stopped at the red traffic signal at the Commonwealth Blvd. intersection. When the traffic signal turned green, the Kia accelerated into the intersection striking the pedestrian, 41-year old Bonnie Caso of Manchester.
According to police, Caso was crossing the eastbound lanes of Route 37 within the crosswalk and then left the crosswalk and walked diagonally across Route 37 westbound lanes. While she was crossing, the traffic signal turned green and the Kia travelled forward, striking Caso at a low speed.
Caso suffered non-life-threatening injuries, was assessed on scene, and then transported to Community Medical Center by Quality Medical Transport and MONOC Paramedics.
The investigation is ongoing.
