Ocean County Man Wanted For Murder

OCEAN COUNTY – A Manchester man is currently wanted by police in connection with the brazen shooting death of a Seaside Heights woman in broad daylight last week.

Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer and Manchester Township Police Chief Antonio Ellis announced that 35-year-old Maxwell Johnston has been charged with Murder, in connection with the shooting death of 25-year-old Gabriella Caroleo, in Manchester Township on June 27, 2024.

Johnston was also charged with Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, and being a Certain Person Not to Possess a Weapon, all arising out of the same incident.

Police say officers responded to the area of Ridgeway Road and Hope Chapel Road at around 4:55 p.m. on June 27, due to a 911 call reporting that a woman had been shot.

Police arrived and discovered Caroleo with a gunshot wound to her stomach. She was airlifted to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, where she succumbed to her injuries.

An extensive investigation conducted by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, Manchester Township Police Department, and Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, has revealed that Maxwell Johnston was the person responsible for the death.

Johnston has not yet been taken into custody, and is considered a fugitive from justice.

As such, a warrant for his arrest has been issued and his name has been entered in the National Crime Information Center database.

“We have been working diligently with our law enforcement partners to locate Johnson. Great teamwork has been exhibited by all of the respective law enforcement agencies and officers involved in this investigation. We are focused on finding Johnson and bring him into custody.
