TOMS RIVER – Authorities at first thought the death occurred from natural causes. But a family member stepped forward to point the finger at the woman’s live-in son, who was charged in her her murder Friday.
Thomas Foster, 63, was arrested and lodged in Ocean County Jail July 12 for the Jan. 13 murder of his mother, 85-year-old Carolyn Foster. He is awaiting a detention hearing.
Emergency personnel responded to the Fosters home in Cedar Glen West in January after someone from the home made a 911 call to report an unresponsive female. Manchester Police and medics arrived to find Carolyn Foster dead.
Due to her age and medical history, officials determined the manner of death unsuspicious.
However, a family member later came forward claiming Thomas Foster had killed his mother.
Officials ordered a post-mortem be conducted. Results concluded “that other contributing factors may have been involved in Carolyn Foster’s death,” the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office said in a Saturday statement.
Authorities ordered Manchester Township Police and Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office detectives to further investigate, which led to the arrest of Thomas Foster.
