MANCHESTER – A 29-year-old motorcyclist is left in critical condition after colliding into an SUV early Sunday morning, police said.

The crash occurred around 12:30 a.m. at the intersection of County Route 571 and Ridgeway Boulevard.

According to police, 38-year-old Ryan Niemiec of New Egypt was making a left turn from 571 onto Ridgeway Boulevard in his Toyota SUV when 29-year-old Zachary Childs of Jackson impacted the driver’s side with his dirt bike. Police said the dirt bike was not equipped with any lighting devices.

As a result, Childs sustained life threatening injuries and was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune via medevac. He is currently listed in critical condition, police said. Niemiec reported no injuries at the time of the crash.

Assisting at the scene were members of Jackson and Toms River Emergency Service EMTs, as well as Robert Wood Johnson Paramedics, and Ridgeway Volunteer Fire Department.

At this time investigation is still ongoing, however authorities believe lack of any lamps or illuminating devices on the motorcycle appears to be a contributing factor of the crash. This crash is being investigated by Patrolman Keith Douglas of the department’s Traffic Safety section.
