MANCHESTER – A Whiting man fell victim to a fatal accident on Route 539 over the weekend, according to Manchester Police.
On October 6, police responded to Route 539 at the intersection of Cherry Street in the Whiting section of town for reports of a motor vehicle crash involving multiple vehicles and a motorcyclist. Once on the scene, officers observed a 2007 Honda Motorcycle on its side, the driver unresponsive.
According to police, Herbert W. Genne Jr., 65, of Whiting was traveling on southbound on Route 539 on his motorcycle when he lost control, striking a 2004 Jeep Liberty. The Jeep, driven by 41-year old Daniel Dewey of Browns Mills, was stopped in traffic southbound, preparing to make a left turn on to Cherry Street.
After striking the Jeep, Genne’s motorcycle continued into the opposing lane of traffic and was struck by a 2017 Lexus NX200T, driven by 62-year old Gail T. Lamanna of Allentown, NJ.

Despite immediate rescue efforts, Genne was pronounced dead at the scene by MONOC Paramedics. Dewey and Lamanna were both uninjured in the crash and refused medical treatment.
The roadway was closed for several hours following the crash while the investigation was conducted.
The investigation is ongoing, but police believe driver error on the part of the motorcyclist to be a contributing factor in the crash.
