LAKEHURST – The cause of a 660-acre fire that broke out on the Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst yesterday is still under investigation.
The fire started at approximately 2:30 p.m. on a training range on base near Browns Mills. Nearly 100 firefighters and first responders from Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst fire services and New Jersey State Forest Service, aerial support, and the Burlington County Strike Team were needed to help contain the blaze, according to the base.
While there were no evacuations or structural damage, but some roads were closed to aid response crews including Pemberton Browns Mills Road, Pipeline Road, Juliustown Road and Pointville Road.
“Due to partial road closures, JB MDL employees who use the Browns Mills Gate or Pemberton Gate are encouraged to use an alternate gate for base access tomorrow to allow for crews to keep working. The gates will remain open,” stated a post to the joint base’s Facebook page on April 3.
