LAKEHURST – A Chicago man was arrested and charged with several violations as the result of a traffic stop, police said.
On Many 15 around 1:34 a.m., Lakehurst officers were conducting additional patrols in the West Lake section of the Borough when they saw a Buick sedan leave the area of the Express Inn Motel. The car was pulled over by Officer Vance Pelinon for multiple traffic violations on Route 70.
During the on-scene investigation, it was determined that the driver, who was identified as Andrew L. Colvin Jr., 56, of Chicago Illinois, was driving under the influence of alcohol.
Colvin Jr. was arrested and while searching his car, officers found a loaded 9mm handgun on the floor in the back seat.
After running the gun’s serial number through the NCIC database, authorities discovered that it was stolen out of Alabama.
Additionally, police said Colvin Jr. did not have a permit to carry a firearm, and is a convicted felon and a certain person not permitted to possess any firearms.
Colvin Jr. was transported to the Lakehurst Police Department for processing and lodged at the Ocean County Jail. Colvin Jr. was charged with Unlawful Possession of a Handgun, Possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose, Certain person not to possess a weapon, Receiving stolen property, Taking vehicle without consent of the owner, Driving while intoxicated, Reckless Driving, Failure to maintain lane of travel, Delaying traffic, and Unlicensed driver.
All criminal charges are merely accusations, and all subjects are innocent until proven guilty.
