MANCHESTER – A 74-year-old motorcyclist was airlifted to an area hospital after sustaining injuries from a crash.
Dennis J. Durow of Whiting was traveling on Route 539 Saturday just after noon when he lost control of his 1999 Honda Valkyrie attempting to make a right-hand turn onto McMahon Avenue. His bike collided with a stop sign and flipped over, according to Manchester Township Police. He was thrown from the bike.
Durow sustained “significant” injuries to his back and shoulders, and was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune via hospital medivac.
He was wearing a DOT-approved helmet, police said.
Whiting Volunteer First Aid Squad and paramedics from MONOC assisted at the scene. Patrolman Ian Bole of the Manchester Township Police Department Traffic Safety Unit is investigating.
