JACKSON – Police say they have arrested a man who allegedly threatened a woman with a weapon to get her to perform a sexual act with him.
Rashiiva Shorter, 40, of Jackson, was processed and charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, criminal restraint and aggravated sexual assault.
Charges are merely accusations until proven in a court of law.
According to police, a woman told officers she had come to Pushkin Memorial Home on Pushkin Road at around 3 p.m. on November 19. She came there to meet with Shorter who then led her into a room and locked the door. He produced “an edged weapon” and demanded her to perform a sexual act with him.
She told him that she had a friend waiting outside who had driven her to the location. Shorter fled and was later spotted by police walking on Crescent Avenue. The victim fled the building to the car and her friend.
The arrest was credited to the quick response of Jackson Police detectives and the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office at the crime scene, and patrol officers in finding the suspect.
