JACKSON – Police are investigating a motor vehicle collision that sent four people to the hospital, one of which is in critical condition.
On August 19 at approximately 5:30 p.m., officers responded to the area of the Regional Day School on Route 571 (Toms River Road) for reports of a serious motor vehicle crash. Also responding to the scene were Jackson Fire Station 56, Jackson First Aid Squad and MONOC Paramedics.
According to police, a blue 2019 Nissan Sentra was traveling southbound on Route 571 when it veered off the right side of the roadway, striking a tree.
In the car was the driver, 22-year old Roberto Bonilla of Toms River, passenger 21-year old Amora Alvares of Bayville, and three juveniles in the back seat. Their names will not be released.
Bonilla and the three backseat passengers were transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center for treatment. Alvares was also transported to Jersey Shore Medical Center and is currently in serious condition, police added.
The crash remains under investigation, but police believe that only the driver and one rear seat passenger were wearing their seat belts.
