PLUMSTED – Police found that a motor vehicle accident near Route 539 and Longswamp Road on the morning of April 23 caused two fatalities.

When police arrived on the scene, they found an overturned PDC Trucking Company 2017 Mack GU7 dump truck in a field along Route 539 and a 2010 Lexus Rx350 SUV with severe driver side damage, still in the roadway.

Paramedics pronounced the two female passengers of the SUV dead on the scene. The driver was 79-year old Nancy Harris of Newtown, PA and the passenger, Helen Conover, 84, of Hamilton, NJ. The truck driver, 58-year old James Bevacqua of Little Egg Harbor, was transported to Deborah Heart and Lung Center with minor back pain.

Police investigations revealed that Bevacqua was traveling north on Route 539. While approaching the intersection at Woodruff Road, Harris collided with the truck while making a left-hand turn onto Route 539. The SUV was hit on the driver’s side by the dump truck.

Route 539 was closed following the accident for an investigation and cleanup until 3 p.m. The investigation was conducted by the Plumsted Township Police and the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Fatal Accident Investigations Unit.
