HOWELL – Howell residents could see more gyms and health centers cropping up throughout the township. On Dec. 11, the Township council authorized an ordinance that would add health and fitness centers to the list of permitted uses within a special economic development zone (SED).
According to the township, an SED is meant “to provide for a variety of economic development opportunities in areas of the Township where rail and highway infrastructure are readily available.”
Among the allowable uses for SED zones in the township are: offices, financial institutions, warehousing and distribution, assembly and packaging, utility uses, agriculture services, certain manufacturing services, construction, and recreation, among others.
The ordinance now also incorporates health club facilities and fitness centers into this definition.
