BRICK – A middle school student has been charged with making Terroristic Threats against the school after suspicious comments were reported to police.

On December 8, the Brick Township Police Department received a call that a Lake Riviera Middle School student made a threat involving a firearm.

Police said an uninvolved student had overheard the suspected student make suspicious statements, and later told their parent.

After providing this information to police, detectives were able to work with the school to identify the suspect and charged them with making Terroristic Threats.

In addition, detectives searched the juvenile’s home finding no firearms other than a pellet gun belonging to the child’s guardian. For precaution, police took the pellet gun for safe keeping with the permission of the owner.

“The Brick Police and the Brick Schools are committed to the safety and wellbeing of all our students, staff, parents, and community,” Brick Police said in a statement.

Chief Riccio thanked the school administration as well as the student and parent who reported the incident.

Riccio also ensured that they “always take such threats seriously,” and urges anyone who sees or hears of suspicious activity to report it immediately. Threats and suspicious activity can be reported directly to the Police, or to school officials, or by using the WeTip link on the school district website.
