BRICK – The Ocean County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s assistance identifying a car that eluded police after hitting a patrol vehicle Sunday morning.
Around 11 a.m., a Sheriff’s Officer attempted to pull over a car at the intersection of Hooper Avenue and Brick Boulevard. The car proceeded to pull into the Brick Mall and parked behind the building.
According to authorities, the driver reversed and hit the patrol vehicle, then drove forward striking a red garbage container before ultimately fleeing the scene.
The vehicle was last seen traveling on Hooper Avenue towards Cedar Bridge Avenue in Brick Township, authorities said.
The car is a black Honda Civic hatchback, newer model, and has an unknown New Jersey Temporary Registration starting with the letter “C.” The car had front end damage on the driver side with potential red paint transfer as well as rear driver side bumper damage.
The driver is described to be a “Hispanic male with black hair and was wearing a black hat.”
Anyone with information regarding this vehicle or the identity of the driver is asked to contact Detective Vanderveen at jvanderveen@co.ocean.nj.us.
