LAKEWOOD – Police are investigating the death of a 21 month old girl who was left in a car in Lakewood Township on Monday, May 6.
A report by NBC New York stated that the child was found by a neighbor on Monday around 2 p.m. According to the report, “there was a miscommunication about whether the toddler’s mother or father would bring the toddler in from the car.”
The child was unresponsive when she was found and first responders at the scene performed CPR, but were unable to revive her.
It is unknown how long the child was left in the car for.
Monday saw warm temperatures around 60 to 70 degrees, which might have played a role in the death of the child, authorities said.
According to the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, the investigation is ongoing.
