BRICK – A man who had been reported missing was located Monday afternoon after evading authorities, prompting a lengthy search of Forge Pond, police said.
Officers had encountered a man, later identified as Christopher Therien, around 3 a.m. Monday sleeping in the Forge Pond parking area located off Route 70. While officers were explaining the park rules and hours, Therien took off and swam across Forge Pond. He proceeded to take a resident’s kayak from their backyard and paddled west into a wooded area behind the Ocean County Golf Course.
According to police, Therien had been previously entered into the National Database as a missing and endangered person.
Around 3 p.m. Monday, Brick Police informed the public that Therien was located. No details were released about where he was found.
Assisting in the search were Brick O.E.M., Brick E.M.S., and the Breton Woods & Pioneer Hose Dive Rescue Team, along with the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department and the New Jersey State Police.
