BRICK – A local man has been sentenced to jail after setting up a camera in a bathroom and recording women and a teenage girl, and then distributing the video on two child pornography websites, officials said.
Michael Mattina, 59, of Matawan, was sentenced to five years in New Jersey State Prison (NJSP) – with a five-year period of parole ineligibility – relative to his previously entered guilty plea to Distribution of Child Pornography.
Additionally, Mattina was sentenced to four years NJSP relative to his previously entered guilty plea to Invasion of Privacy. The sentences will run consecutively.
The judge also ordered that Mattina be subject to Megan’s Law and Parole Supervision for Life. Mattina pled guilty to both charges before Judge Ryan on July 22, 2024.
Mattina had secretly recorded six female victims, including one 16-year-old victim, using a hidden camera located in the bathroom of a home in Brick.
Authorities later discovered that Mattina posted the videos of the victims on two adult websites.
On August 17, 2020, Mattina was charged with several counts of Invasion of Privacy and Distribution of Obscene Materials. Additionally, Mattina was charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Manufacturing Child Pornography, and Distribution of Child Pornography. On that date, Mattina surrendered himself to Brick Township Police Headquarters and was served with the charges via summons pending upcoming appearances in Ocean County Superior Court.
Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer acknowledges the diligent efforts of Senior Assistant Prosecutor Shanon Chant-Berry who handled the case on behalf of the State, and commends the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office High Tech Crime Unit and Brick Township Police Department Detective Bureau and for their cooperative efforts in connection with this investigation, leading to Mattina’s guilty pleas and now his state prison sentence.
