LAKEWOOD – Lakewood’s Woodlake Country Club has closed its doors temporarily, according to owner Matrix Development Group.
With a decline in popularity, the owner has decided to close the course temporarily while they determine what’s next for the country club. The club sits on 150-acres of property located off of New Hampshire Avenue in Lakewood. While the closure is temporary, the company is unsure whether the club will reopen.
Woodlake’s website boasts a “par 72 championship golf course, practice facilities, clubhouse with restaurant, wedding ceremony area and banquet facilities capable of accommodating over 500 guests.”
However, the greens are now mostly empty even on the sunniest summer afternoon.
Matrix continues to own Woodlake Country Club, according to a Matrix spokesperson, and there have been no applications for development of the property field with the township as of yet.
With the temporarily closure of Woodlake and the recent closure of Eagle Ridge Golf Club on Augusta Boulevard, Lakewood’s only public golf course left available is the Lakewood Country Club.
