HOWELL – Hopefully you’ve done all your holiday shopping so you can avoid the local ShopRite, which seems to be a hotspot for angry customers. Three women ended up with minor injuries after a fight broke out in the express lane checkout at the Howell ShopRite on Nov. 21.
According to police, a 43-year old Brick woman was in the express checkout lane when she was joined by a 45-year old Howell woman who disregarded the lane’s checkout item limit. After a brief exchange, fists began to fly and the two women began punching, biting, spitting, and pulling each other’s hair, according to witnesses.
In an effort to break the fight up, a 43-year old Freehold Township woman got involved, earning scratches and bites on her leg from the Brick woman, police said.
ShopRite employees eventually succeeded in breaking up the fight and police then arrived on scene. The women were treated at the scene for minor injuries.
The woman from Brick was charged with simple assault and disorderly conduct. The woman from Howell was charged with charged with disorderly conduct. Both were released on complaint summonses pending a future court date.
