BRICK – A local youth wrestling coach has been arrested and charged for distributing child pornography after police found videos and pictures through a messaging app.
According to documents and statements made in court, Alec Donovan, 24, of Brick, was using a messaging app to share videos containing child porn online.
Between January and March of this year, Donovan sent three videos with images of child sexual abuse and received two videos of images of child sexual abuse, police said. The videos showed sexual acts involving pre-pubescent children.
In addition, Donovan allegedly used the messaging app to solicit and talk with minors, asking for nude photos as well as sending nude photos to them.
On August 3, Donovan was charged by complaint with receipt and distribution of child pornography. This charge carries a mandatory minimum penalty of five years in prison, a maximum potential penalty of 20 years in prison, and a $250,000 fine.
Anyone who has information related to this case or who may be a victim, can contact the FBI’s Newark Field Office at NK-Victim-Assistance@FBI.gov.
Acting U.S. Attorney Rachael A. Honig credited special agents of the FBI, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge George M. Crouch Jr., with the investigation leading to the charge.
The charge and allegations contained in the complaint are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
