BRICK – A woman was charged with murder, and police are asking for the public’s help in finding her.
Mayra Gavilanez-Alectus, 48, of Brick, was charged with the murder of a woman who lived with her, Rebecca Gavilanez-Alectus, 32, at her Creek Road home.
The incident occurred on May 17. Police were called to the residence to find the victim dead in a bedroom. The weapon appeared to be a “cylindrical container used for the purpose of chilling wine,” police said.
Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer and Brick Township Police Chief James Riccio announced that Mayra Gavilanez-Alectus was charged with Murder; Unlawful Possession of a Weapon; and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose. These charges are merely accusations until proven in a court of law.
“Great teamwork by all of the respective law enforcement agencies and officers involved in this investigation. Our focus now is to find Mayra Gavilanez-Alectus and bring her into custody. The incident is being investigated by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, Brick Township Police Department Detective Bureau, Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office High Tech Crime Unit, Brick Township Police Department, Brick Township Police Department Detective Bureau, Federal Bureau of Investigation, United States Department of Homeland Security, United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and United States Marshals Service.
