Brick Unico To Raise Italian Flag This Weekend

  BRICK – A township organization will hold an Italian flag raising Friday morning in commemoration of Columbus Day and Italian heritage.

  The flag raising will be held at 10 a.m. at the Brick Municipal Building on Chambers Bridge Road.

  “Come help us help us celebrate Columbus Day and our Italian Heritage,” Brick Unico President Lisa Pizzella said. She will be welcoming everyone to the event which will include a flag salute by member Hank Shindel. A prayer will be offered by Alan Florio, the club’s division chairperson.

  Brick Unico Vice President Rae Saulino, Brick Mayor John Ducey and members of council are also expected to be present and a proclamation will be made by Ocean County Commissioner Joseph Vicari.

  New Jersey Italian American Heritage Commission Chairman Robert Di Biase and Italian American One Voice Coalition Andre DiMino will also be present.

  Members of the Brick High School Italian program will be present and Brick High school Italian language teacher Sonora Monica Cardin will announce the winner of the Columbus essay contest.

  The poem “I am an Italian American” will be read by Dr. Maureen Persi of Brick Unico and the benediction will be presented by Alan Florio.

  Brick Unico member Melindo Persi said “after the event we are inviting those interested to join us at Denino’s Pizzeria South” at 869 Mantoloking Road, Brick. He added that admission for after-event is $15.
