LAKEWOOD – Police had an unexpected helper in a recent case that charged a Lakewood school official with possession of child porn.
The Asbury Park Press reported today that it was the work of Best Buy employees who noticed “concerning file names” on the Lakewood High School assistant superintendent’s computer, which brought the matter to the attention of the police. While the computer was at Best Buy for service, police obtained a search warrant for the device, according to Brick police.
Major L. Finklin, the 63-year of assistant superintendent, has since been charged with third-degree possession of child pornography.
On Aug. 21, Jersey Shore Online reported Finklin was arrested on August 16. Superintendent Laura A. Winters notified parents of the arrest on August 20.
Since his arrest, Finklin has been suspended with pay, which is Lakewood Board of Education policy. With school beginning on Sept. 7, administrators are searching for a temporary replacement.
Anyone with information on Finklin’s case should contact the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office at 732-929-2027.
