Pedestrian Struck In Critical Condition

  BEKELEY – A pedestrian is critically injured after being hit by a car last week in Berkeley Township, police said.

  On September 4 around 3 p.m., police responded to the intersection of Doral Drive and Cohansey Drive in Holiday City for a report of a pedestrian struck by a car.

  According to police, Eugenio Carta of Berkeley was driving a 1999 Buick Sedan and went off the roadway. As a result, he hit a woman who was walking her dog on the sidewalk on Doral Drive. The car then struck a tree, coming to a final rest, police said.

  The victim suffered a life-threatening head injury and was airlifted to Jersey Shore University Medical Center. She is in critical, yet stable condition, police said.

  Carto was issued summons for Careless Driving and Failure to Maintain Lane.

  The crash is still under investigation by Traffic Safety Officer Brian Flanegan. Anyone with information is asked to call the Traffic Safety Bureau at 732-341-1132 ext. 2125.
