OCEAN GATE – Police are asking the public for any information about a vandalism that took place sometime between Wednesday night and early Thursday morning.
The first “Welcome to Ocean Gate” sign, provided by the Ocean Gate Civic Club, was stolen, and its replacement recently erected. The sign is at the end of the duck pond driving from Bayville into Ocean Gate.
On Thursday morning, residents and passers-by saw that this new sign was apparently struck by a large rock that left a hole in the sign.
Facebook commenters to Ocean Gate News reported that the sign was vandalized sometime between dusk and early morning.
“It’s more than a shame. A lot of people worked very hard to earn the money to have these signs made and put up. This one is a replacement sign of the one that was stolen. The Civic Club is running out of money to replace these beautiful signs. Someone knows something…. do the right thing come forward,” one commenter lamented.
Anyone with information is asked to call Ocean Gate Police at 732-269-2468.
