BERKELEY – A 34-year-old man was arrested for trespassing after officers found him parked outside of a middle school Tuesday afternoon, police said.
Around 1 p.m., authorities received a report of a suspicious vehicle parked on the campus of Central Regional Middle School. When police approached the Ford pickup, there were two occupants inside and learned that they had no official business to be on school property.
While attempting to identify them and issue warnings, the front passenger became uncooperative and refused to provide police with his information. The front passenger, later identified as Jose E. Acosta, 34, of Manahawkin, was subsequently removed from the car and placed under arrest.
Acosta was charged with Trespassing on school property and Obstruction. He was transported to Berkeley Township Police Headquarters for processing was released on his own recognizance, pending a future court date.
“Officers were alerted and quickly arrived on scene. At no point was there a threat to the students or staff of the Central Regional School District. Precautionary measures were taken to protect the students and staff during the investigation,” Berkeley Police said.
Officers found no weapons and no threats made during the incident.
