BAYVILLE – Veterans Park is making an effort to become more inclusive with the addition of the We-Go-Round, a merry-go-round-type of playground equipment that is accessible for kids of all abilities.
Berkeley Township officials held a ribbon cutting for the We-Go-Round on Saturday, July 27. In attendance was Mayor Carmen Amato, members of the Berkeley Township Council, the Bayville Elks #2394 and their Special Needs Ambassador, Val Falzarano.
“The We-Go-Round is an updated version of the merry-go- round, but allows kids of all abilities, including those in a wheelchair, to be able to spin around and join in on the fun with their friends and family,” said Mayor Amato. “The We-Go-Round provides rooftop shade and seating for friends, allowing inclusive play.”
Special Needs Ambassador Val Falzarano was the first to take the new equipment out for a spin.
Val’s mother, Kim Falzarano said, “I’m appreciative that Berkeley Township saw the need to have this in the park. There’s not many things that my son can do to interact and have fun with other kids.”
Val’s mother noted that her son loves the We-Go-Round.
“What a great way to get other kids to interact with handicapped kids and provide inclusion on the playground,” she added.
