BERKELEY – Longtime member of the Bayville First Aid Squad Howard Smullen was awarded a medal and plaque on July 2 following his recent retirement.
Smullen retired at the end of June after 20 years with the squad. Smullen began his career 29 years ago as an EMT. Starting out as a shy and timid technician, he eventually grew into a well-loved and appreciated member of the Bayville squad.
Smullen has helped train several members, and his guidance landed him the role of star EMT in the squad. Always a positive and encouraging presence, Smullen will be sorely missed by his fellow squad members. He promised to keep in touch.
