BERKELEY – Black smoke could be seen for miles and sirens heard along Route 9 in Bayville. Berkeley Township summoned numerous fire trucks and other emergency response vehicles around 1:30 p.m. on February 16.
The multiple units came in response to a structural fire on Butler Avenue and Cramer Boulevard. Firefighters arrived to observe an inferno. The house was fully engulfed. Those who fought the blaze included firefighters from the Bayville Vol. Fire Co. and the Pine Beach Vol. Fire Co.
The fire which broke out in the Sonata Bay senior development in Bayville, may be connected to outages of power reported by Jersey Central Power & Light. The outages numbered 1,200 people in Beachwood and more than 1,000 in Berkeley Township. The outages were reported around 3 p.m.
A home located at 63 Butler Avenue caught fire and the flames spread quickly. Firefighters quickly got control of the fire and extinguished it.
