BERKELEY – Motorists can expect to encounter a DWI/traffic checkpoint in Berkeley Township this weekend.
Ocean County Prosecutor Joseph D. Coronato said the checkpoint will be along Route 9 in Berkeley Township. More enforcement will be present to slow down traffic along this stretch of roadway well-known for its heavy vehicle and pedestrian traffic during the shore summer season.
“It is so very important for drivers along the entire length of the Route 9 roadway to use an extra measure of caution. Tragedies can only be avoided if drivers slow down and absolutely don’t drive impaired,” Coronato said.
While the program focuses on drunk drivers, officers will also be targeting anyone seen breaking State statutes.
The Ocean County Board of Chosen Freeholders and the NJ Division of Highway Traffic Safety fund this checkpoint program and is coordinated by the OPCO’s Vehicle Homicide Unit. The Berkeley Township Police Department, along with OCPO detectives and the Sheriff’s Office K-9 department participate.
