BERKELEY – A driver suffered serious injuries after a two-car crash on Route 9 near Hickory Lane Saturday, police said.
According to police, a Ford F-250 towing a trailer tried to turn around on Route 9 when the vehicle backed into a concrete block on the shoulder of the road. As a result, the truck and trailer were stopped in the middle of the roadway. The driver of the Ford exited the vehicle to check the concrete block that he backed into, police said.
During this time, a Toyota Corolla was traveling south and crashed into the Ford as it was stopped in the roadway. The crash resulted in air bag deployment, police said.
The driver of the Corolla sustained serious injuries, and was initially going to fly out via MedEvac. However, the driver was transported by ambulance to Jersey Shore Medical Center.
Route 9 was temporarily closed down between Hickory Lane and Station Road for about one hour, police said.
This crash is still under investigation by Patrolman Wahl of Berkeley Township Traffic Safety Bureau.
The intersection has seen several accidents over the years. A traffic light may finally be coming to the spot.
