Councilman Still Hospitalized After Wunder Wiener Crash

BERKELEY – The owner of der Wunder Wiener remains hospitalized at Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune with serious injuries, police said.

Gerald LaCrosse, 74, is also a councilman in nearby Beachwood. He was inside the food truck on Monday morning when an SUV heading south on Route 9 left the roadway and destroyed the eatery.

The driver of the SUV was identified as Mark Poplawski, 52, of Forked River. He suffered minor head and neck injuries in the crash. He was treated for those injuries at Community Medical Center in Toms River.

The remains of the building were removed from its location and taken to a secured facility, police added.

The crash is still being investigated by the Berkeley Township Detective Bureau, the Berkeley Township Traffic Safety Bureau and the Ocean County Prosecutors Office.
