BERKELEY – A new award honoring Central Regional graduates that have contributed significantly to the community has been started this year. The first ever Hometown Heroes are Mayor Carmen Amato, Seaside Heights Police Chief Thomas Boyd, and Ocean County Sheriff Michael Mastronardy.
The three of them will be honored at a cocktail recognition ceremony at Hemingway’s Café in Seaside Heights, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Oct. 19.
Tickets to the event are $50. Proceeds from the fundraiser will go toward scholarships for at least three graduating seniors. So far, between ticket sales and advertisements, $9,000 has been raised, Board of Education member Susan Cowdrick said.
Those interested in attending can call 732-269-1100 ext. 3206. Checks can be made to the Central Regional Foundation, sent to one of its members Superintendent Triantafillos Parlapanides, Central Regional School District, 509 Forest Hills Parkway, Bayville, NJ 08721.
