About Us

Micromedia Publications, Inc. was founded in 1995 by Stewart Swann and Robyn Friedrich for the purpose of publishing high quality local weekly newspapers within New Jersey. Following the successful launch of The Manchester Times in April of that year, the company has since introduced The Berkeley Times (1996), The Jackson Times (2000), The Brick Times (2002), The Howell Times (2004), The Toms River Times (2005) and The Lacey Barnegat Times (2010), now The Southern Ocean Times (2013). These publications have not only been vital sources of information for our readers, but have proven to be an indispensable means of dialogue through our Editorial and Letters To The Editor features.

The first edition of The Manchester Times contained an editorial entitled “The Importance of Community,” which has been published within the first edition of all our newspapers since that time. It expressed the belief that the strength of our nation is founded upon the strength of our individual communities through “the simple associations we make in our community each and every day.” As such, the editorial continued, “We believe the mission of a local newspaper should be to promote the highest ideals of community life,” a mission we have tried to pursue faithfully through the years. Of course, we invite those visiting our website to share this experience with us.

In 2014, Jason Allentoff, formerly of Townsquare Media, joined the executive team of Micromedia.

In 2017, Micromedia launched Jersey Shore Online, a news enhanced website with social media and advertising opportunities for small, medium and large businesses.

In 2022, Micromedia acquired Toms River Online, Bricktown Online and several other digital properties in Ocean County.
