MANCHESTER – An 18-year-old was hospitalized after crashing into a car, causing the car the catch fire, police said.
The crash occurred around 12:46 a.m. Sunday in the area of Commonwealth Boulevard and Northampton Boulevard.
William Roberts, 18, of Manchester, was riding a motorized bike when he ran the red light at the intersection of Commonwealth Boulevard and Northampton Boulevard. As a result, he crashed into a 2020 Ford Explorer.
Roberts was ejected from his bike, continuing about 75 feet before coming to a stop.
The bike impacted the rear end of the Ford, causing the car to catch fire. The car was fully engulfed in flames by the time officers arrived. However, no occupants were inside the car, police said.
Roberts was transported to Jersey Shore University Hospital via ambulance for treatment and evaluation of his injuries. Mr. Roberts is currently listed in stable condition.
The driver of the Ford, 26-year-old Tzvi Kaplovitz of Manchester, was uninjured as a result of the crash.
The roadway was partially closed during the investigation and cleanup, police said.
Authorities stated that disregard of a traffic signal is the primary contributing factor or the crash.
Assisting at the scene were Emergency Medical Technicians from the Manchester Township Division of Emergency Services, Manchester Volunteer Fire Department, Ridgeway Volunteer Fire Department, Paramedics from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, Hatzolah Emergency Medical Services and Accurate Towing.
This crash is being investigated by Ptl. Brendan Brush of the department’s Traffic Safety Unit.
