BRICK – A Township man is currently in critical condition from shooting himself in the head after breaking into his ex’s home and firing a gun at an officer, officials said.
Around 8:40 a.m. Monday, Brick Police received a 911 call from a woman stating that her ex-husband, 28-year-old Corey Johnson of Brick, had broken into her home on Judy Court.
The woman was notified of the break-in via her Ring doorbell camera, and immediately left her job and called 911. Police said when she pulled into the parking lot of her residence, Johnson had already left the home and proceeded to pull his car in front of the victim’s car, blocking her in.
A Brick Police Officer arrived on scene and as he exited the patrol car, Johnson fired one shot in that direction, hitting the windshield. The officer suffered minor injuries to his arm from glass shards as a result of the shot fired at the windshield of his patrol vehicle.
Immediately after firing the weapon at the officer, Johnson turned the gun on himself and shot himself in the head.
Officers provided first aid to Johnson and he was then transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, where he is currently listed in critical condition.
The officer was transported to Ocean University Medical Center in Brick Township, where he was treated for his injuries and released.
At this time, the incident remains under investigation.
