MANCHESTER – A woman was left in critical condition after a head-on collision Tuesday afternoon, Manchester Police said.
The crash occurred around 3:32 p.m. in the area of Route 530 near the intersection of Lacey Road. According to authorities, 25-year-old Nicholas Briggs of Whiting was driving a Dodge Magnum westbound on 530 when it crossed over the center line into oncoming traffic. His car crashed into a Toyota Rav4 driven by 61-year-old Jorie Sanzone of Forked River, who was traveling east on Route 530.
Police said Briggs was uninjured from the crash but was ultimately transported to Community Medical Center for precautionary reasons due to the seriousness of the collision.
Sanzone was flown to Jersey Shore University Medical Hospital by Robert Wood Johnson Barnabas Health’s LifeFlight medevac helicopter where she is currently listed in critical but stable condition, police said.
Assisting at the scene were EMTs and firefighters from the Manchester Township Division of Emergency Services, Robert Wood Johnson Paramedics, and firefighters from the Whiting Volunteer Fire Department.
At this time, the investigation into this crash is still on going. However, police believe failure to maintain lane is the primary contributing factor. The crash is being investigated by Ptl. Michael O’Hara of the department’s Traffic Safety section.
