BERKELEY – A 94-year-old woman remains hospitalized after being hit by a car while crossing the street in the Holiday City senior community, police said.
Berkeley Township Police confirm the incident happened on October 21 shortly after 1 p.m. in the area of Jamaica Boulevard near Bananier Drive.
Police said the unidentified woman was struck while crossing the street by a Ford E150 van driven by 55-year-old John Williams of Berkeley. The woman was in the crosswalk at the time of impact.
The woman suffered a head injury and lost consciousness. She was airlifted to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune where she was listed as stable and treated for non-life-threatening fractures.
Police said Williams was issued multiple summonses for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk, improper turn, careless driving and unregistered vehicle.
The crash is under investigation by Ptl. C. Elliott and Ptl. S. Varady of the Berkeley Township Traffic Safety Unit.
