BARNEGAT LIGHT – A wedding party had to cut the celebration short after the floor started caving in at a LBI restaurant Saturday evening, authorities said.
Emergency personnel responded to the Daymark restaurant on Broadway and Fourth Street around 7:30 p.m. after receiving reports that the second floor had collapsed where the wedding reception was being held.
As a result, about 200 people were evacuated from the building thanks to the DJ’s help telling guests to safely exit the building.
Despite many people on social media stating that the building fully collapsed, Barnegat Light Volunteer Fire Co. confirmed in a press release that this was not the case.
“The floor did not collapse, but caved in resulting in the structure being unsafe for the meantime,” the Fire Co. said.
No injuries were reported from the incident.
Assisting at the scene were Long Beach Township Police Department, Ocean County fire marshal, Barnegat Light First Aid Squad and EMS, as well as EMS squads from Surf City, Beach Haven, Stafford Township, and a paramedic team from Hackensack Meridian.
