Police: Two Toms River Houses Used In Drug Operations

  TOMS RIVER – Three Ocean County residents have been charged for dealing drugs out of two homes in town, officials said.

  One house was allegedly being used by 28-year-old Jamar Montgomery of Lakewood, while the other home was used by 33-year-old Kevin Hunter of Toms River and 33-year-old Diana Mendez, 33, of Lakewood. Police said they viewed surveillance footage of Montgomery, Hunter and Mendez. 

  On March 2, Lakewood Police pulled over Montgomery, who was seen throwing a bag out of his car window. Once officers recovered the bag, they found inside 250 wax folds of heroin, about 30 grams of crack cocaine and $1,300 in cash, police said. Montgomery was also found to be in possession of a knife.

  On March 3, officers pulled over a car that Hunter was driving with Mendez in the passenger seat. Police said they found about 30 grams of crack cocaine, digital scales, drug packaging material and $2,500 in cash.

  The following charges were made:

  Montgomery was charged with Possession of less than One-Half Ounce of Heroin with Intent to Distribute, Possession of more than One-Half Ounce but less than Five Ounces of Cocaine with Intent to Distribute, Possession of Heroin, Possession of Cocaine, Possession of a Weapon During the Commission of Controlled Dangerous Substance, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Eluding and Attempting to Conceal or Destroy Evidence. 

  Hunter was charged with Distribution of less than One-Half Ounce of Cocaine, Possession of more than One-Half Ounce but less than Five Ounces of Cocaine with Intent to Distribute, Possession of more than One-Half Ounce but less than Five Ounces of Cocaine with Intent to Distribute within 1,000 feet of School Property, Possession of more than One-Half Ounce but less than Five Ounces of Cocaine with Intent to Distribute, Possession of More than One Ounce but less than Five Pounds of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute, Possession of Cocaine, Wandering in an Attempt to Obtain or Distribute a Controlled Dangerous Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

  Mendez was charged with Possession of more than One-Half Ounce but less than Five Ounces of Cocaine with Intent to Distribute, Possession of more than One Ounce but less than Five Pounds of Marijuana With Intent to Distribute, Possession of more than One-Half Ounce but less than Five Ounces of Cocaine with Intent to Distribute within 1,000 feet of School Property, Possession of Cocaine and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

  Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer commended the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Narcotics Strike Force, Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Asset Forfeiture Unit, Lakewood Township Police Department Street Crimes Unit, Lakewood Township Police Department Special Response Team, Lakewood Township Police Department Patrol Division, Lakewood Township Police Department K-9 Unit, Toms River Township Police Department Special Enforcement Unit, Toms River Township Police Department Emergency Services Unit, Toms River Township Police Department Patrol Division, and Toms River Township Police Department K-9 Unit, for their work.

Charges are merely accusations until proven in a court of law.
