TOMS RIVER – An electrical malfunction caused a fire that made a township home uninhabitable, fire inspectors said.

A malfunctioning outlet emitted sparks that ignited a nearby daybed, said Kevin Esposito, Chief Inspector of the Toms River Bureau of Fire Protection. The fire took place at 308 Cedar Grove Road, at around 9 p.m. on June 14.

One resident was treated for smoke inhalation. The fire damage to the first floor of the house has left it uninhabitable at this time.

The blaze was investigated by Inspector Dominick Roselli and Matt Janora of the Toms River Bureau of Fire Prevention.

Toms River Fire Company #1 and #2, East Dover Fire Company, Silverton Fire Company, Island Heights Fire Company all responded to the scene.
