NEW JERSEY – This Memorial Day, most if not all ceremonies have been canceled due to the Executive Order against gatherings. A veterans group has filled this void by offering a ceremony online.
The New Jersey Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial Foundation (NJVVMF) will host the annual Memorial Day ceremony virtually via Facebook and Instagram Live at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 25.
“At a time when it is more important than ever to feel connected to others, the NJVVMF decided to host a virtual Memorial Day ceremony to connect friends and loved ones of the brave veterans who served our country on this special day,” representatives of the organization said.
The ceremony will be started with a benediction by Joe Formola, chaplain of the New Jersey State Council of Vietnam Veterans of America, and welcoming remarks from Melissa Ziobro, professor at Monmouth University and NJVVMF Trustee. Broadway performer Ali Gleason will sing the national anthem.
New Jersey Vietnam Veterans will speak about the meaning of Memorial Day. There will also be a scholarship presentation by Rebecca DiBrienza, teacher at Scotch Plains Fanwood High School and NJVVMF Teacher of the Year; reading of the winning scholarship essays by Abigail Lim and Julia Zulin; and closing remarks by Jillian Decker, NJVVMF Director of Development.
