BERKELEY – Emergency food kits will be available for township residents for pick-up or delivery on April 27.
The “crisis” food kits are provided by Fulfill, formerly the Food Bank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties. One kit is designed to provide a family of four with basic groceries to get them by.
They will be distributed at two locations: The Holiday City at Berkeley Clubhouse (631 Jamaica Blvd.) and the Berkeley Recreation Center (630 Atlantic City Blvd./Rt. 9) in Bayville.
Pick-ups will take place from 11:30-1 p.m. on the 27th.
If you are in need, contact Debbi W or Mark at Berkeley Recreation, (732) 269-4456 or by email at mdykoff@twp.berkeley.nj.us. When you call or email, please provide your name, address and phone number for follow up.
Since social distancing rules will be followed, the pick-ups will be drive through style. Food will be placed in trunks or in truck beds by volunteers. Drivers should keep their windows closed. All volunteers will be issued (PPE) personal protective equipment.
“I have seen firsthand how many families struggle from food insecurity,” said Mayor Carmen Amato, who served on the board of the People’s Pantry. “The COVID-19 pandemic has amplified this problem because so many more in our community are struggling. We are here to help in any way we can to help lighten the load for our families and seniors.
“I would like to thank CEO Kim Guadagno and Fulfill for providing the food, as well as our local residents and restaurants for making donations,” he said.
Homebound Deliveries
For those who are homebound, or who have no transportation, the food kits can be delivered. Deliveries will be made from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the 27th.
The delivery person will have no contact with you, and will leave the food at the front door.
