BRICK – In the last few months, police in the township have had their hands full with a slew of drug-related arrests. Add some more to the ever-growing list after a recent traffic stop leads to two men who allegedly had drugs, a weapon and even ski masks.
Brick Township Police confirmed that one week before Christmas, members of their Street Crimes Unit arrested 40-year-old Gillispie Sumpter of Brick and 31-year-old Matthew Tenner of Lakewood during a motor vehicle stop in the Maple Leaf Condominium Complex.
Police Sergeant Jim Kelly said during the early afternoon of December 18, officers of the Street Crimes Unit were conducting investigative operations within the complex. Officers observed a work truck with Florida plates in the area commit a number of motor vehicle violations. Officers pulled the truck over, occupied by Sumpter and Tenner.
During the on scene probe, police discovered contraband which included over 30 wax folds of heroin, a quantity of MDMA (ecstasy), cocaine, drug paraphernalia, a black bb gun pistol and two black ski masks.
Officers also found out that Sumpter, was wanted on $2,000 worth of warrants out of Brick Township and East Brunswick.
Both subjects were charged with possession of heroin and drug paraphernalia.
In addition to those charges, Sumpter was charged with possession of MDMA and possession of a handgun, and Tenner was charged with the possession of cocaine.
Both Sumpter and Tenner were taken to the Ocean County Jail in Toms River.
