FREEHOLD – Unfortunately, another big box store is scheduled to close, and this one had been here a long time.
The Sears at the Freehold Raceway Mall will close next year, according to published reports. The chain had closed its Toms River store already. The Kmart in Toms River, which was owned by the same company, also closed. (Kmart had purchased Sears.) However, the Freehold Sears had managed to stay off the closure list until now.
TransformCo, which has bought the existing stores, made the announcement.
Since Sears is an anchor store, it is unclear yet what will be its replacement.
Sears has been a staple of the Freehold Raceway Mall since it first opened on August 1, 1990 – 29 years ago!
